Diamond Princess Day 3: 14 Feb 2023 Day at Sea

Valentines Day

I was up early and the whole ship had transformed overnight. My coffee bar (Good Spirits) was decorated for Valentines Day. As usual, I was surprised that there were very few people waiting for coffee at 6AM. I had a nice chat with a couple of ships officers.

Even the fresh pastries in the buffet were decorated.

I snacked on a pastry while I waited for the International Dining Room to open for breakfast.

They were doing a renewal of vows ceremony in the Atrium and handed out veils and bow ties to the participants.

I napped and worked a bit mid morning before heading back to the dining room for lunch.

I had the Calamari, The Lamb Stew with Cabbage, and the Blueberry Roulade with mascarpone cream. It was excellent. I might confess that I dipped bread into the broth that was left and the bowl was spotless.

When I got back to the room I was greeted with two towel swans on the bed. I just realized I haven't seen a towel animal since last May. I believe NCL has discontinued making them.

Mid-afternoon I took a break and went to the Ukulele class. It was really great to practice again but my fingers hurt. I had missed the class yesterday because of the Welcome to Princess party but was able to catch up as he did a quick review at the beginning of class. I would guess there were at least 40 people in the class. Many people watched if they didn't have a ukulele.

At dinner, they had a valentines themed menu and even the food was decorated for the occasion.

I had a strawberry smoothie, beef tournedos and shrimp, and the lychee mousse. Every item was delicious. The steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked. That said, it was pretty tough. I absolutely ate it anyway.

After dinner, I went down to see the champagne waterfall. I have never seen this before and I think it must be something unique to princess. The captain said there were 1482 passengers and 1100 crew. I guess that explains why the service has been amazing.

Princess offers two 45 minute production shows per night at 7:30 and 9:30. This show was called Bravo and there was a 9 piece orchestra and 15 dancer/singers. I have to say I'm not an opera aficionado but I was amazed at their talent. They did a nice James Bond medley, as well as some broadway and popular tunes. It was great to be able to finally see a Princess show.

The theater is more shallow on this ship. The seats are less steep and staggered such that it is easy to see between the people in front of you. Although the theater is large, all the seats are good. The audio quality was good. They changed the background behind the orchestra and dancer/singers came in from the front sides, and back of the orchestra. There was two tiers for the orchestra and sometimes the singers would come in and walk sort of through the orchestra on the way down to the main stage.

After the show, I caught the "Marriage Match" show which is very similar to other cruise lines where they match up 3 couples (new, 10-20 years, 50 years of marriage). It is always funny.

I forgot to mention that this was a formal night and many folks were in a tux or jacket. I managed to score a tie at the gift shop for $9 mid afternoon after they went down in the bilge to get it for me. So I guess I didn't look too bad.

I had to sleep because I have a meeting at 1AM just in time for a time change on the ship.

Happy Cruising.
