Can you Pack ONLY a Personal Item for an ENTIRE trip?

I am cruising to Miami on a transatlantic at the end of October and I want to nail down my airfare to Boston.

Spirit saver fare is only $73…. ($86.59 with taxes)

Delta, my go to airline, has a perfect flight but Basic is sold out and Main cabin is $259 (a personal item and carry on will be free). Honestly, the Delta flight isn’t a bad deal.

However, since I am serious about saving my pennies, I want to see if I can cruise with just my personal item on Spirit to take advantage of that $87 fare direct to Boston!

Spirit policy states that my personal item can be a max size of 14x18x8 with no weight limit.

Can I get everything I need to cruise for 3 weeks into a bag that small?

How much will it weight?

Here is my list of critical items:

In this case, I don’t choose a bag with wheels. I need every square inch of space. This bag is exact max dimensions. NOTE: an Amazon 1B4 Box is exactly the correct dimensions for a Spirit personal item tester.

Luggage Choice:

F.FETIVIN Personal item travel bag 18x14x8 for Spirit Airlines

Toiletry bag choice:

TSA Approved Clear Toiletry Bag which is easy to take out to get through airport security.

Packing cubes:

Hynes Eagle 3 Pieces Packing Cubes Set. Note: I have used mine since 2018

In the first packing cube: (14x18x3)

3 polyester T-shirts

4 dress casual short sleeved button-up shirts

1 dress casual long sleeved button-up shirt

2 polyester polo shirts

1 pair of nice jeans

1 pair of polyester golf pants

2 pairs of shorts

1 bathing suit

In the third packing cube: (11x7x3)

7 pairs of socks

7 pairs of underwear

Lightweight winter hat and gloves

Third section:

Deodorant,

Comb,

Sunscreen

Toothbrush

Toothpaste

Expansion button

Laptop in a Padded Case

Small case with laptop power supply and cable, global adapter with 2 USB ports

Phone charging cable and Spare cables.

USB adapter and micro-SD cards

In the outside pocket of the bag: (sometimes around my neck and inside my shirt)

Neck Wallet:

Money for tipping room steward and bigger bills

Emergency credit cards

ATM card

Passport

Covid Vaccine Card

Lanyard and Travel Wallet (I don’t use the lanyard)

What do I wear when I travel?

In my pocket: Phone, airpods/case

Travel wallet with small bills for tips, license, credit card

Long Sleeved pullover polyester shirt with a half zipper

Polyester T-Shirt

Jeans

Underwear and Socks

Belt

Light Jacket (I splurged and absolutely love mine)

Feel free to wear more than one set of clothes if they don’t fit in the bag!

In summary, my bag now weighs 17.4 pounds... and has no wheels... I have to carry that thing around.

Given that I travel solo, that means I have to lug that thing around all day. I will need to make my decision to pay to bring a carry on with wheels (I'll talk about this another day) or go with this.

I use everything that I recommend on Amazon. If you click the link and buy it, it doesn’t cost you anything but it helps me out.

I hope this helps you make your decision and maybe even remind you to pack something you hadn't considered.

Thanks and see you on a ship!
