Virgin Valiant Lady Day 3: Malaga (overnight)
Cruising solo is glorious. If you can find the perfect match, cruising can be even sweeter. Last year I met some solo cruisers on the Norwegian Epic. I'm not sure what spectrum you could judge us by, but I'm sure we'd fall on both sides and the middle. Our diversity makes for lots of entertaining faux paus as we stumble to navigate our way through ship life. This is the third time I have sailed with these crazy folks at this point. My day may bring laughs, embarrassment, shame for being associated with these guys or all of the above. In the end, the best part about being on this ship solo is there are plenty of spaces to just escape when I need to. The Virgin contrast to the peace and relaxation from my previous cruise is palpable. However the fun witty banter with the Virgin vagabonds is hard to resist. In the end, on this ship, we are all trapped on the island of misfit toys.
A quick escape to my balcony or sweating to the oldies in the VHS exercise class. There are so many things to do on this ship.I love the variety of activities.. but most are sold out. I'm told to go anyway as there are usually no shows. That said, the app and the reservations seems to stifle spontaneity that usually comes with a cruise and I may be struggling a bit from drinking from the firehose. The free meditations, yoga, and excercise classes are definitely a huge bonus for this cruise line. The staff has been attentive, excited, enthusiastic, and very professional. They all seem to love being here serving the guests. The issue is the "hammock is worthy of all the hype" as my friend said. It would be so easy to slip in and out of the gentle ship rocking induced coma, interrupted only by deliveries of room service for more delicious coffee and tasty ship eats.
